profit and loss

I bought some oranges at the rate of 5 for a $. I sold all of them to you at the rate of 4 for a $, bought all of them again from you at the rate of 3 for a $ and sold them all to you in the end at the rate of 2 for a $. What is my percentage profit in this whole transaction?

Answer:

Take the LCM of 5,4,3,2 to get all values in whole number. Let the LCM value be the number of oranges transacted.

Therefore, Basis: 60 orange

Cost of 60 orange to me = 60/5 = 12$.

First selling = 60/4 = 15$

Second buying = 60/3 = 20$

Second selling = 60/2 = 30$

Total earning = (15 – 12) + (30 – 20) = 13$

Overall % profit = (13/12) x 100 = 108.33%
