If x kg of tea cost $y,
how many $ will y kg of the same tea cost?
Answer:
Cost
of 1 kg tea = y/x
Cost
of y kg tea = (y/x).y = y2/x
8-Time and work
If 3 men, or 4 boys or 6 women take 10 days to do the job, how much
time would they take to complete the same job working together?
Tank and Cistern
There is a leak at the bottom of a tank. The leak can empty a full
tank in 6 hours. A inlet pipe to the tank fills the tank at 4Litres/min. When
the tank is full, the inlet pipe is opened, but due to the leak the tank is
emptied out in 8 hours. What is the capacity of the tank?
Ans:
Volume of water added to the tank in 8 hours = 4 x 60 x 8 =
1920 Litres.
Volume of extra water removed during the
additional 2 hours
= 1920 litres.
So, water removed in 6 hours = (1920/2) x 6 = 5760 litres.
So, volume of tank = 5760 litres.
Profit and Loss
Cost of 4 eggs is equal to the selling price of 5 eggs. What is the
profit or loss percentage?
Ans:
By selling 5 eggs, the shopkeeper looses 1 egg.
So, by selling 100 eggs he will lose = (1/5) x 100 = 20%
