pipes and cisterns

Three pipes A, B and C can fill a tank in 6 hours. All the three pipes are kept open for 2 hours, C is then closed and A and B fills the remaining part in 7 hours. The number of hours taken by C alone to fill the tank is ................

answer:
in 2 hours A, B and C can fill = 2/6 tank = 1/3 tank
So, tank remaining empty = 1 - 1/3 = 2/3 tank
now, A and B fill 2/3 tank in 7 hours.
so, A and B can fill tank in 7 x (3/2) = 21/2 hours
So, C alone can fill in 1 hour  = 1/6 - 2/21 = 3/42 tank = 1/14 tank
so, number of hours taken by C = 14 hours.
